Just back from a visit to the ophthalmology dept to see if a cataract should be operated on. Decision: not yet.
I do have difficulty with being called by my first name by complete strangers, although this blog employs that format. In the unequal relationship between medic and patient it feels infantilising, especially when said medic neglects to introduce himself. Even in a hospital stay they ask you how you would like to be addressed, but no matter what you say you get the first name. It feels like a lack of respect. Not that I need RESPECT, just day-to-day courtesy. Showing my age.
